Important Information Regarding United States Postal Service (USPS) Postmarks

In August 2025, USPS changed how postmarks are affixed to incoming mail. Instead of postmarks being affixed when the item is first touched by the Postal Service, postmarks are now stamped at the regional sorting center which can delay application for several days. Your postmark could be several days after you put your tax payment in the mail. This is problematic because Windsor uses the USPS postmark for proper crediting of payments. If the payment is mailed at the end of December, it may not receive a postmark until the next year and the payment will be credit based on the postmark. There could also be an issue with payments being considered delinquent if they are mailed too closely to the tax bill deadlines of January 31 and July 31.

What can residents do:

1. Use the online payment method.

2. Pay in person or use our drop box.

3. Take your payment to the USPS store and ask their customer service to postmark it in front of you.

4. Mail your payment well in advance of any deadline or year end.
